In the community
Over the years Orchid has worked with many charitable organisations and been involved with many community initiatives. We believe that a community working together is vital in today's economy.
Derby Childrens Holiday Centre
DCHC is a charity which was established in 1891 to provide disadvantaged Derbyshire children with holidays in Skegness, Lincolnshire. At the present time it provides 450 holiday places per season.
Treetops Hospice
Treetops Hospice provides specialist palliative care for adults with life limiting illnesses such as cancer, multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease, end stage heart and respiratory diseases, etc.
Project Uganda
The project provides young people with the opportunity to travel to Uganda to help with a whole host of projects including supplying educational equipment and building materials to Mirembe Secondary School and Kiringo Secondary School. Money raised by the students goes towards providing equipment for the schools.
St Anns Advice
Advice about welfare benefits, employment, debt, housing and criminal injuries to the St.Ann's and Dale Wards areas of the city.
Lewis Mighty
Lewis Paul Mighty was diagnosed with Stage 4 High Risk Neuroblastoma at the age of 3 in October 2008. This is a very rare form of cancer which mainly targets under 5’s. Most children who have this disease don’t display any symptoms until the disease is widespread. Devastatingly; Neuroblastoma has only a 20% chance of being cured in Europe making it one of the most deadly of child cancers.
Some of the recent fund raising events that we have done are;
- World Cup party for Lewis Mighty
- Sponsored skydive for Treetops Hospice
- Robin Hood half Marathon for Treetops Hospice
- Office dress down day for St Anns Advice Centre
- 6 a-side football tournament at Pride Park for Treetops Hospice
- Complete IT set up for The Derbyshire Childrens Holiday Centre
- Sponsored Derby Universities Best Honours Award in Business Management
