Treetops 6 a side cup - 27/5/2009

Teams from Orchid (in orange) and Flint Bishop (in black) battle it out at Pride Park Stadium

On Wednesday 20th May Orchid I.T and Flint Bishop Solicitors jointly hosted a 6-a-side football tournament at Pride Park Stadium. It was a fairly cold and wet night but despite the rain all the teams showed an extremely high level of enthusiasm and the skill and determination on show made it a fantastic night for all of those involved.

The teams were made up of players from Greenbank Group, HL Plastics, Metal Improvement Company, Derby County, The Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce, Derby Quad, Brownhills Technology College, Swindell & Pearson, Lubrisol, Rugeley Power Station, YHA and Smith Cooper.

The eventual tournament winners were Flint Bishop who beat Orchid I.T 1-0 in the final with a great free kick scored by Ross Matthews. A goal which would have easily graced any final! The final followed victories in the semi finals for Orchid over Rugely Power Station on penalties and for Flints over their B team 1-0.

The evening ended with a meal in the Toyota Suite which gave all the players a chance to reflect on their own performances.

Treetops Hospice Ripple Appeal also benefitted from the tournament as each team has paid a £100 donation for playing. The Treetops Ripple Appeal is raising funds for a new building at the hospice in Risley which provides specialist palliative care to people with life-limiting illnesses such as cancer, multiple sclerosis and motor neurone disease.

A special thank you goes to Sophie Levey of Orchid I.T who helped enormously on the night with her organisational skills. Also a thank you to all at Derby County who helped put the tournament together.
